After spending three years in Holland, Michael Zullo is returning to the A-League. The 24-year-old (who will be 25 next month) has joined Adelaide United on a seaon-long loan from FC Utrecht. Zullo previously spent three seasons in the A-Leauge with Brisbane Roar, winning the 2009/10 championship before departing for Europe.

The left winger has been sent on loan from FC Utrecht to return to the A-League as part of Adelaide’s late offseason overhaul.
With Dario Vidošić’s move to Switzerland coming earlier this week, Adelaide picked up quite a lot of money but lost its most productive player of the 2012/13 season. Though the Reds gathered a reported AU$700,000 for Vidosic from FC Sion, the club have indicated they will not be using the money on a Marquee Player but rather are hoping to fill the two recently opened roster spots with players who will fit Josep Gombau’s new system.
Zullo explained the move in a club press release:
”I want to be at a club again where I could be a first eleven player and play regular football. Obviously with an eye on the World Cup next year as well, I want to try and get as many games under my belt this season as I can and push a case to be part of the Socceroos.
”Luckily enough Adelaide United showed some really keen interest on getting me, I got a really good vibe from the people I’ve talked to at the club, and I’m just really excited about getting there.
“On the field, I think I can bring some energy and speed down the left hand side, so hopefully I can help Adelaide and I think the game style they intend to play is a perfect fit for my kind of game and hopefully it will be a good fit for both of us.”
The winger is due to arrive in Adelaide on Sunday.
