Dolphins’ Dion Jordan on track to play Week 1

Miami coach Joe Philbin says we’re “going to see a lot” of the first-round pick in upcoming weeks.

Whether Miami Dolphins first-round draft pick Dion Jordan would be able to suit up for the team's regular season opener has been in serious doubt over the past week or so. According to head coach Joe Philbin, however, the defensive end's return from offseason shoulder surgery is still on track, per The Palm Beach Post.

During a teleconference with fans on Wednesday, Philbin said “you’re going to see a lot” of the rookie in the coming weeks.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft returned to practice on Tuesday, where he participated in individual drills.

Jordan’s progress in rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder has been slow, causing him to miss much of training camp. He played sparingly in the Dolphins’ second preseason game and did not practice again until Tuesday.

With Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon penciled in as the team's starting defensive ends, Jordan is expected to contribute as a third-down pass-rushing specialist in his first year. Considered by many to be the top pass rusher in April's draft, the Oregon Duck product accumulated 12½ sacks and four forced fumbles over his final two seasons in Eugene.
