Dee Milliner injury: Jets CB leaves stadium in walking boot

The rookie didn’t play in the preseason finale due to a calf injury.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner left MetLife Stadium in a walking boot Thursday night, Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com reports.

Milliner sat out Thursday's preseason finale against the Philadelphia Eagles with a calf injury. He told Matt Ehalt of ESPN.com on Tuesday that he expects to play in the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 8 despite the injury.

The corner sounded upbeat about the injury, telling Ehalt, “I’ve been rehabbing every day, being aggressive with it, rehabbing, doing everything. It’s been doing great.” Wearing a walking boot, however, could indicate that his injury has gotten worse or isn’t progressing as planned.

The No. 9 pick in the 2013 draft has not practiced for the last two weeks, also missing the team's third preseason game against the New York Giants. Milliner has impressed when healthy, winning the starting cornerback spot opposite Antonio Cromartie during the first week of training camp.

Kyle Wilson will likely start Week 1 if Milliner is unable to play.
