Three goals by three key attackers gave Newcastle Jets an easy 3-0 win over Sydney Olympic in a pre-season match at Belmore Sports Ground just outside Sydney on Tuesday. Nathan Burns scored in his Jets debut while Emile Heskey and Michael Bridges added goals of their own to give Newcastle an encouraging result. Not only was the game Burns’ debut, it was the first game in a Jets kit for Kew Jaliens, who played forty-five minutes for Newcastle.
Jets brush off Sydney Olympic in Belmore friendly
Goals from Nathan Burns, Emile Heskey and Michael Bridges saw off the New South Wales Premier League side in Belmore.

As other A-League clubs have played higher profile friendlies in Italy, Malaysia, Japan and China, the Jets have mostly played local competition, though they did lose to Wellington Phoenix last month. This offseason has been less about expanding the club’s international brand and has been aimed at solidifying a roster that could improve upon the seventh place finish from 2012/13. The Jets only missed finals football by one point last season and new players like Burns and Jaliens are finally mixing in with the team in pre-season matches, giving a better idea of the Jets’ 2013/14 identity.
