Perth Glory picked up a 1-0 pre-season win against Melbourne Heart at the Intiga Stadium in Inglewood, thanks to a ninth minute Jamie Maclaren goal. Wednesday’s match was the first of two in the space of four days as the two clubs hook up again down the coast in Mandurah on Saturday at the Hyundai Stadium.
Jamie Maclaren goal enough to lead Perth Glory past Melbourne Heart, 1-0
Tando Velaphi was Heart’s best player, saving a penalty and repeatedly denying more Perth goal scoring opportunities.

Maclaren’s early goal gave Perth the opportunity to push Heart throughout the first half. Tando Velalphi kept Heart in the game when he saved Maclaren’s penalty in the 16th minute and was called upon again to deny Jack Clisby a 29th minute effort. The former Glory goalkeeper also kept out two Brandon O’Neill shots in the 76th minute.
For both sides, this game featured a combination of new signings and young players. Though veterans like Iain Ramsay and David Williams played for Heart and Steve Pantelidis captained the Glory, none of the star players were on the pitch in Wednesday’s game. The expectation is that this game, almost exactly one month before the A-League season kicks off, was a primer for Saturday’s affair where more regular XIs should be on display.
