Buccaneers' linebacker Lavonte David's late hit on Jets' quarterback Geno Smith will cost the second-year player more than just a loss on the field. David is being fined $7,875 by the NFL for the out-of-bounds blunder, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Tampa Bay linebacker moved the Jets into field-goal position after he was penalized for hitting Smith after the QB scrambled to the sideline.
Bucs’ Lavonte David fined for late hit on Geno Smith, per report
Buccaneers’ linebacker Lavonte David is being fined by the NFL following his late hit on New York’s Geno Smith.

The penalty that gave the Jets an extra 15 yards allowed for New York kicker Nick Folk to boot the 48-yard game-winning field goal. The Jets won the game, 18-17, and David has been publicly criticized by the media and fans for the late hit.
Rapoport also reports that David plans to appeal the suspension. The Buccaneers will host the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 at Raymond James Stadium. The game will take place at 4:25 p.m. ET on Fox.
