NFL picks and predictions, Week 2: Lions vs. Cardinals

This matchup has experts split on which team will come out on top.

USA TODAY Sports

The Lions and Cardinals will battle in Arizona in Week 2. The Lions are coming off an impressive 34-24 home victory over the Minnesota Vikings, in which they unleashed new running back Reggie Bush, who gained nearly 200 total yards. The Cardinals thought they had a Week 1 victory locked up against the Rams, but St. Louis scored 13-straight points in the fourth-quarter to steal a win from the Cardinals. The Lions will look to add a second win to their season total, while the Cardinals will do all they can to give new head coach Bruce Arians his first win.

Despite the Lions’ Week 1 success, the Cardinals’ home-field advantage has give Arizona even odds against Detroit, according to OddsShark. That same home-field advantage may have played a role in the game’s picks for the CBS Sports experts. Of the eight “expert” panelists at CBS, five chose the Cardinals to come out victorious, both with and without the odds.

While the majority of CBS NFL experts took the Cardinals, Pete Prisco thinks the game will be tightly contested. Prisco predicts that the Cardinals will beat the Lions by a score 33-30. Here is what he had to say about the game:

Both these teams showed well on offense last week, so look for a lot of points. Carson Palmer should have some chances down the field against a so-so Lions secondary. This is a shootout. Cardinals take it.

While the Cardinals are favored on CBS, the ESPN panel of experts are fans of Detroit in the Week 2 matchup. For ESPN, ten of the 13 analysts chose the Lions to win on the road. K.C. Joyner, Chris Mortensen and Tom Jackson were in the minority of the panelist, choosing the Cardinals to get their first win of the season.
