NASCAR at Chicagoland Speedway 2013 race day weather forecast: Will it be a washout?

The weather outlook for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway does not look promising. Rain showers will be around for most of the day.

The weather outlook for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Chicagoland Speedway does not look promising. Cold front coming out of the northern Plains will slowly work across northern Illinois Sunday and into Sunday afternoon and evening. Below is a forecast models interpretation of what the radar might look like from 8 a.m. EDT to Midnight on Monday.

Chicagoland_weather_medium

Rain showers will arrive this morning and continue into the afternoon. The NASCAR Sprint Cup race is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. EDT if the forecast holds true I anticipate it to be raining around then and continue into the late afternoon and possibly the early evening.

Timing when the rain exits will be the toughest part. Many of the forecast models keep the rain around until 9 or 10 p.m. EDT (8 or 9 p.m. CDT). If the rain ends earlier, and with air titan at the track this weekend, it is possible we are looking at a Sunday night race, but if it doesn’t this could be a Monday race. I still place the odds of us getting a race in today around 30 to 40 percent. They aren’t great odds but they are better than nothing. If NASCAR would decide to move this to Monday I wouldn’t be surprised

I will be updating as the day goes on via Twitter @NASCAR_WXMAN and also on Facebook with the latest weather information.
