Michael Mifsud, the tiny striker who once knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup, has signed with Melbourne Heart on a one-year contract. The 5'5" Maltese forward has been playing in the Maltese Premier League since 2010 after leaving Coventry City in England. Mifsud also had spells at Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga and Lillestrøm in Norway.

The 32-year-old Matlese international has been without a club since June but has been playing in World Cup qualifying.
Despite being Malta’s all-time leading scorer, Mifsud has been without a club since leaving Maltese side Valleta in June. On June 7, the diminutive striker scored the goal that gave his country its first competitive away victory in more than twenty years in, a 1-0 defeat of Armenia in Yerevan in World Cup qualifying. He captained Malta in its two September qualifiers, defeats against Denmark and Bulgaria.
Said manager John Aloisi after Mifsud completed his first Heart training session:
“Michael has scored goals at whatever level he has played. He is an exciting footballer and will be a dynamic influence in our attack. As the captain of Malta, he has played against the very best teams in the world and held his own. It’s not easy to lead the line against the likes of Italy and Croatia, and test those defenses, something which he has done regularly.”
Mifsud will wear no. 11 for Heart.
