Brisbane Roar spent little time dispatching of Sydney FC in a pre-season game in Cairns, winning 4-1. The match played 1000 miles north of Brisbane at Barlow Park drew 4707 for the penultimate friendly for each side before the 2013/14 A-League season begins next month. Kwame Yeboah scored twice, including in the first minue, and Corey Brown added a goal and an assist for the Roar who led 4-0 through 70 minutes. Joel Chianese scored the lone Sydney goal.

The Roar put Sydney in bad positions to start each half with Yeboah opening scoring in the game’s first minute. Besart Berisha scored three minutes after half-time, thanks to a cross from Shane Stefanutto, who grew up in Cairns. In between, Brown scored his goal and the Roar dominated possession through quick passing and high pressing.

Yeboah got his second in the 51st minute, bringing the score to 4-0 in favor of the Queenslanders. Three subs followed for each side before the game was complete, including Chianese, who entered for the Sky Blues in the 55th minute. His goal in the 70th minute gave a small measure of respectability for Sydney in a game so far from home. Alessandro Del Piero remained on the bench, representing the only outfield player to dress for the game who did not get a run out.

Sydney complete its busy pre-season as host to Perth Glory on Sunday September 29. Brisbane will play Olympic FC in Yeronga on the 29th, bringing their friendly schedule to a close.
