NFL fines include $31,000 for Vontaze Burfict, $10,000 for Cam Newton

The NFL dished out fines for Week 3, including a pair of fines for Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict totaling $31,000. Burfict was given a $21,000 fine for a hit to head and neck area of Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones and an additional $10,000 for a hit to the groin of Packers tight end Ryan Taylor, was captured in GIF form by SB Nation's Bengals blog, Cincy Jungle.

Also drawing a fine was Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton after Forbes discovered that he had been wearing an Under Armour clip on his helmet, possibly for his entire NFL career. The discovery led to a $10,000 fine for Newton and will likely spell the end of his use of the clip.

While Newton drew a fine for something as innocuous as a helmet clip, the NFL raised some eyebrows by not delivering a fine to Denver Broncos linebacker Wesley Woodyard for his concussion-inducing hit on Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor. The NFL determined Woodyard's hit of Pryor was clean, although the Raiders quarterback disagreed.

Also delivered on Friday was $21,000 for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate for his blindside hit of Jacksonville Jaguars safety Dwight Lowery, which can be seen on SB Nation's Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, $21,000 for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer's helmet-to-helmet collision with Chicago Bears safety Chris Conte and $15,750 for Philadelphia Eagles kicker Alex Henery for his horse-collar tackle of Kansas City Chiefs returner Quintin Demps.

Rounding out the big fines dished out on Friday was a $15,000 fine for Bengals safety George Iloka's hit on Packers tight end Jermichael Finley, a $10,000 fine for Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley's unnecessary roughness penalty, $7,875 for Dez Bryant's "throat slash" celebration and $7,875 for San Diego Chargers offensive lineman Jeromey Clary for unnecessary roughness.
