Montreal Canadiens defenseman Douglas Murray will miss four-to-six weeks due to an upper-body injury, according to multiple reports on Monday afternoon.
Douglas Murray injury: Canadiens defenseman out 4-6 weeks
Douglas Murray’s official debut with the Canadiens will be delayed a few weeks as he attempts to recover from an upper-body injury.
Murray sustained the undisclosed injury during practice on Sunday, according to Michel Therrien. It’s the second such instance of Murray sustaining injury during the preseason portion of the 2013-14 season, as he dealt with a lower-body injury previously. The 33-year-old defenseman signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal as an unrestricted free agent with Montreal this offseason.
Montreal has indicated that the club won’t call-up a player from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League and that Jarred Tinordi will replace Murray, which is a good thing, according to Andrew Berkshire of Eyes on the Prize:
Murray will be replaced in the lineup by Jarred Tinord, which is good news for the Habs, because Tinordi is much better than Murray is. Surprisingly though, Montreal also announced that no defenseman would be called up as insurance.
It seems that the Canadiens would prefer if all their AHL defensemen finish training camp with the Bulldogs before getting called up, and the Habs’ light schedule could accommodate this wish. Nevertheless, once Hamilton’s training camp is over, I would expect someone to get the call.
