Champ Bailey injury: Broncos CB won’t play Thursday night vs. Ravens

The Broncos will be missing a key defensive player when they take on the defending champs.

USA TODAY Sports

The Broncos will need all hands on deck in the secondary following the release of Denver's injury report for the team's Week 1 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. The Broncos were dealt a serious blow when Pro Bowl cornerback Champ Bailey was declared out for Thursday Night Football in Denver.

Bailey had been on the sidelines for more than two weeks, after spraining his foot on Aug. 17 in a preseason game against the Seahawks. The severity of the injury had left the 15-year veteran questionable for the opener and possibly the first few games of the season. For now at least, Bailey will be in street clothes when the Broncos host the defending Super Bowl champion Ravens on Thursday.

The 12-time Pro Bowler is one of three Broncos players to be ruled out for Thursday's home opener. Tight end Joel Dreessen and running back C.J. Anderson will miss the game as well with knee injuries. Starting guard Chris Kuper is listed as doubtful for the game.
