Eagles’ Riley Cooper, Cary Williams involved in fight at practice

Riley Cooper and Cary Williams are making headlines in Philadelphia again, but this time it is with each other.

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

Fists were flying at the NovaCare Complex during an Eagles practice on Thursday when wide receiver Riley Cooper and cornerback Cary Williams exchanged blows during the morning session, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The scuffle between the two players was so intense that several players had to get in between Cooper and Williams to break up the fight.

Williams clearly threw punches at Cooper, who looked "distraught" following the tussle, according to McLane. Cooper elected to stay out of one-on-one drills, while Williams strolled the sideline. DeSean Jackson eventually spoke to both players and they resumed practice.

Here is video of the fight to judge the evidence:

Cooper was involved in a controversy during training camp after a video leaked on the Internet of the former Florida Gator saying the N-word at a Kenny Chesney concert. While the majority of his teammates accepted Cooper’s apology, Williams was one of the few players to publicly discuss his negative feelings over the incident. Despite not being happy about Cooper’s comments, Williams said that he could still play with the wide receiver.

Williams is not a stranger to controversy either. He is known to be hot-headed and even pushed a referee during last season’s Super Bowl. Williams has also received heat from fans and media for skipping his first voluntary minicamp with the Eagles in order to attend his daughter’s recital and assist in the building of a new home.

Both Cooper and Williams are expected to start at their respective positions in the Eagles' game against the Redskins in Washington on Monday Night Football. Kickoff for the game is at 7:10 p.m. ET on ESPN.
