Giants restructure contracts for G Chris Snee, P Steve Weatherford

The Giants were looking to get further under the cap and restructured two veteran contracts to make it work.

The Giants have a bit a more cap room, following the restructuring of a pair of veteran contracts. Longtime Giants guard Chris Snee reworked his deal on Wednesday, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News. The restructure of his contract will save New York $1.25 million this season. Due to the new agreement, $2.5 million of Snee's salary will be converted into a bonus, making his cap number $4.2 million this year.

Snee has played for the Giants during his entire 10-year career that has featured four Pro Bowl appearances, 138 career starts and two Super Bowl titles. Snee signed a six-year contract extension following the 2008 season. If Snee is not extended during this season, 2014 will be his contract year.

Vacchiano also reports that the Giants reworked punter Steve Weatherford’s deal on Wednesday. Weatherford’s restructured contract gives $675,000 in savings for the Giants. The punter has been with the team since 2011.
