Michael Oher injury: Ravens tackle has sprained ankle

Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher avoided serious injury on Thursday against the Broncos.

Doug Pensinger

The Baltimore Ravens have reason to be optimistic about the health of offensive tackle Michael Oher. According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, tests have confirmed that Oher's sprained ankle is not a serious injury. The right tackle was injured in the Ravens' season-opener against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.

Oher has not missed a game since being drafted in the first round by the Ravens in 2009. The Ole Miss alum will have a 10-day rest before the Ravens host the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 15. The extra rest and how Oher's ankle responds to treatment will determine whether or not he will extend his streak of 65 consecutive games played.

Second-year player Kelechi Osemele is listed as Oher's backup at right tackle. Osemele started in Week 1 at left guard for the Ravens against the Broncos on Thursday night. He started all 16 games of his rookie season as well.
