Steelers sign Jonathan Dwyer after LaRod Stephens-Howling ACL injury

The Steelers will re-sign Jonathan Dwyer following the ACL tear of LaRod Stephens-Howling.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are making a change to their running back group due to injury. With LaRod Stephens-Howling out for the year, Pittsburgh plans to re-sign running back Jonathan Dwyer, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The move was made necessary after Stephens-Howling tore his ACL during Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Titans.

“It wasn’t reported how much the Steelers will give Dwyer, or what his role will be,” Neal Coolong of Behind The Steel Curtain wrote, “but judging by the horrendous job the Steelers did in pass protection, Dwyer’s ability to block has to be the overlaying value of this move.”

Dwyer was drafted in the sixth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Steelers and spent the last three seasons in Pittsburgh. He appeared in 13 games with six starts and rushed for 623 yards and two touchdowns last season.

Stephens-Howling will likely be placed on injured reserve in order to make room for Dwyer. The former Arizona Cardinal was signed in free agency this offseason and had six carries for 19 yards and two catches for 11 yards against the Titans in his Steelers debut.
