2014 Winter X Games: Results for Day 1

Colten Moore highlighted the opening day of the X Games with an emotional gold medal victory.

Doug Pensinger

Colten Moore won the gold medal in the Snowmobile Freestyle at the 2014 Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo., one day short of a year after his family was struck by tragedy at the very same event.

Moore scored a 91.33 in his first run on Thursday to easily beat out Joe Parsons and Heath Frisby, both of whom finished five or more points behind him. It was Moore’s second gold medal and first since he topped Parsons and his late brother, Caleb, in the 2012 final.

“This is the greatest moment ever, to be able to come back here and ride for my brother ... and to be able to come out here and get gold is unbelievable,” Moore said in a post-race interview on ESPN.

“I just give it all to him; I know he was the one helping me do everything that I was doing.”

Caleb passed away on Jan. 31, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a crash in the Snowmobile Freestyle final a week earlier. He was a four-time winner of X Games gold.
