Colt McCoy will start at quarterback for Washington until Robert Griffin III returns from a dislocated ankle, head coach Jay Gruden announced during his Monday press conference. Griffin has not officially been ruled out for the Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys, but Gruden said he won't play unless he's "100 percent."
Colt McCoy to start for Washington until RG3 returns
Kirk Cousins’ hold on the backup job is officially gone.

For the past six weeks, Washington rode with Kirk Cousins under center. The third-year quarterback replaced the injured Griffin in the first quarter of Week 2 and started strong, posting 677 yards and five touchdowns in his first two games while completing 64.2 percent of his passes. However, Cousins cooled off in the time since, bottoming out during a home game against the rival New York Giants in which he tossed four picks. He was off to another poor start on Sunday, leading to Gruden pulling the plug in favor of McCoy.
McCoy entered the game in the second half against the Titans, throwing a 70-yard touchdown on his first pass. He went on to complete 11 of his 12 passes for 128 yards, leading Washington to its second win of the season.
An earlier report suggested Griffin could be ready in time for Washington's tilt with the division-leading Dallas Cowboys, but Gruden doesn't sound like he wants to rush his star quarterback too soon. If McCoy gets the nod next Monday, it'll be his first start since the 2011 season, when he was with the Cleveland Browns. Still, if Griffin can play, Gruden and Washington will have to consider letting him.
Griffin’s status will be a primary focus this week. Until then, McCoy is planning to start.
