Royals escape Giants rally with 9-6-1-4 double play

The Royals are just making up ways to get outs at this point.

Rob Carr

Because nothing that involves Norichika Aoki can ever be normal, what looked to be a standard flyout followed by a runner on second bluffing the tag-up to third turned into a 9-6-1-4 double play. After Aoki caught the ball, Brandon Belt bluffed to third, drawing an errant throw.

After the mishandled throw, Belt started back toward third, because the Royals had left it unattended. Their fielders quickly recovered, however, causing Belt to retreat back to second. Yordano Ventura, alertly backing up the play, fired a throw to second, with Omar Infante applying an impressive tag.

The Giants walked away from the inning with a tie game after Belt had doubled home Pablo Sandoval earlier, so all was not lost.
