Pablo Sandoval doesn’t have contract offer from Red Sox, yet

Sandoval doesn’t have a contract offer yet, but should soon.

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval has departed Boston after visiting with the Red Sox, and doesn't have an offer in hand, but he expects to receive one, per ESPN's Gordon Edes.

Edes quotes Sandoval’s brother Michael, who is also one of his agents, in saying that he was expecting an offer. This report came on the heels of a report out of KPIX in San Francisco that there was a 90 percent chance he’d sign in Boston, with Toronto the only other possibility.

Simple addition tells us that there are no percents left to attribute to the Giants, the team that signed and developed him. There's more intrigue, though, as Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle notes that the Giants "continue to be engaged" with Sandoval, and that there was no seven-year request from Sandoval's side, as noted in the KPIX report.

Sandoval is coming off a season in which he batted .279/.324/.415, with 16 home runs and 73 RBI. He bolstered his case for a big contract in free agency in the 2014 postseason as he hit .366/.423/.468, powering the Giants lineup to a World Series title.

Oh, and never forget
