SB Nation 2014 Olympics Preview

Monday is a busy day in the Olympics schedule, as the speed skating events get underway with a long day of qualification rounds followed by two medal events.

Short track is the top event of the day with the men’s 1500m event dominating the schedule. The qualification round starts at 4:45 a.m. ET and the medals will be handed out shortly after 7:05 a.m. ET. This is one of the most intense events in speed skating due to the sharp turns and breathtaking finishes. J.R. Celski is the top American contender and a big favorite to reach the podium. He took the bronze in Vancouver in this same event.

The other medal event is the men’s 500m course. America’s Shani Davis is the name to watch here. He won two golds in the 1000m event, but has yet to win a medal in 500m. He is hoping to change that here.

Here is the complete speed skating schedule. All times are ET, and medal events are marked with italics and an asterisk.
