Winter Olympics 2014 super combined results: Julia Mancuso captures Bronze for Team USA
It was a disappointing finish for Julia Mancuso following an early lead, but she was overjoyed.

Julia Mancuso represented Team USA’s best chances in the Womens’ Super Combined skiing on the slopes of the Rosa Khutor Alpire Center, and she backed up the belief by winning her third consecutive Winter Olympics medal with a bronze.
Mancuso got out to a quick start by posting a blistering 1:42.15 in the downhill portion, leading the field by almost half a second following the first run. The course proved difficult for men’s favorite Bode Miller or Sunday, but Mancuso did not fall into the same trap, managing the sheer drops and breakneck speeds. She was unable to follow up with a quick slalom time, finishing 13th in the discipline and seeing her lead evaporate.
Rather than wallowing in her struggles in slalom Mancuso was overjoyed, screaming and jumping for joy at the finish line -- thrilled that she made the podium in her third-straight Olympics.
Veteran skier Maria Hofl-Riesch of Germany was the competitor to beat after winning the 2010 event in Vancouver, before following it up with a win in the world championships in Austria last year. She finished a slower in the downhill section in 5th, but turned up the dial in the slalom to capture gold by being the most consistent skier on the mountain.
This Super Combined course is regarded as possibly the most difficult in Olympic history, particularly in the slalom leg that saw nine skiers fail to finish due to errors.
