Winter Olympics 2014 women’s hockey results: USA rolls over Switzerland
The American women flexed their muscles in a huge win on Monday.

The United States women’s ice hockey team will head into their matchup against rival Canada on a huge high after routing Switzerland 9-0 in group play on Monday.
The Americans carried an 8-0 all-time record against Switzerland into the contest, having outscored the Swiss 76-5 in previous matchups. That goal-scoring trend continued on Monday in a big way, as the USA grabbed a huge lead early and never looked back.
Forward Monique Lamoureax put the Americans on the board first with a goal just 9:20 into the game. Brianna Decker and Amanda Kessel followed with goals of their own less than a minute later, staking the United States to a 3-0 lead before the Swiss could even blink.
The three goals in 55 seconds in the first period broke an Olympic record. Hilary Knight scored again for the United States at 14:23, and Kessel scored her second goal of the period on the power play a minute later to give Team USA a 5-0 lead after one period. The five goals in 6:22 also broke an Olympic record.
The onslaught continued in the final two periods of the game, as Lamoureux scored once in the second and Kendall Coyne scored twice in the third to help give the Americans an 9-0 lead.
Switzerland will play Finland and the United States will take on Canada on Wednesday.
