The Canadian men entered as the favorites, but are having a difficult go of things in the round-robin tournament.

SB Nation 2014 Olympics Preview

The round-robin portion of Olympic curling continued on Tuesday with four men’s matchups and eight on the women’s side. Both teams from the United States were in action today, but neither got the results they for which they had hoped.

Men’s results

China defeated the United States rather easily, 9-4, in morning action. The Americans will continue the round-robin against Denmark at midnight ET on Wednesday morning in live action from Sochi.

In other action, Sweden snuck away with a 7-6 victory over Canada, the Games’ favorites and winner of the gold in the previous two Olympics. Canada has now dropped two straight and is 1-2 in the tournament. Great Britain also barely got by the Germans by a score of 7-6, as well. Lastly, Norway defeated host-team Russia, 9-8, on Tuesday.

Women’s results

The American women, like their male counterparts, didn’t fare very well either. Great Britain posted a decisive 12-3 final against the United States, and the Russians beat the Americans 9-7 as well. The United States will be on the ice again at 5 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning.

Elsewhere, Canada defeated Sweden, one of the tournament favorites, 9-3, Switzerland defeated Denmark, 7-6, and the South Koreans, 8-6. South Korean managed to defeat the Japanese, 12-7, and Japan also took an 8-3 victory over Denmark on Wednesday. China beat Russia, 7-5, as well.

All Wednesday curling action begins at midnight ET and continues throughout the morning.
