Sochi Olympics 2014 speed skating schedule: Two medal events on tap for Thursday
Speed skating continues on Thursday with medal events in the women’s 500m short track and 1000m long track. Here’s the complete schedule.

Thursday is a busy day for Olympic speed skating. There are a combined six events on the schedule, and two gold medals will be handed out by the end of the day.
The women’s 500m short track event is the big headliner of the day. Qualification begins at 5 a.m. ET and the medals will be handed out sometime after 7:05 a.m. ET. China cleaned up on the short track in Vancouver, taking home four gold medals. They will hope to do the same this year with three women competing in the 500m event. Emily Scott is the only American in this event.
The Netherlands has had an incredible run on the long track, racking up four golds so far. They hope to continue that run in the women’s 1000m final, led by Ireen Wust, the gold medalist in the 3000m event. Brittany Bowe, Heather Richardson, Kelly Gunther and Sugar Todd are the four Americans in this event. They are looking to break the Dutch’s streak of dominance and recover from a disappointing start to this year’s speed skating run. Meanwhile, the South Koreans have plans of their own with Lee Sang-Hwa, the 500m gold medalist. Russia’s Olga Fatkulina is another name to watch after winning silver in 500m.
