SB Nation 2014 Winter Olympic Coverage

Six medal events are set to begin on Friday as the Winter Olympics move into Day 9. One of the biggest events is in alpine skiing, where the men’s super combined run takes place. This event sees the men completing both the downhill and slalom courses, with the aggregate times being used to determine the medal winners. That event gets underway at 2 a.m. ET.

One of the other main events is the conclusion of the figure skating individual men’s competition with the free skating program. Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu put the world on notice Thursday when he set an Olympic record with a 101.45 score in the short program. Canada’s Patrick Chan, Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi and Spain’s Javier Fernandez are the other big names to watch. All three men put on solid performances in the short program and are expected to jockey for position on the podium, but so far it’s Hanyu’s competition to lose.

Other action includes a slew of qualification matches in curling and ice hockey, along with the women’s freestyle aerials competition and a medal event in women’s skeleton. Here is your complete schedule for the day (all times are ET, medal events are in italics):
