Winter Olympics figure skating 2014 schedule for Sunday

The United States enters as medal favorites with the start of ice dance.

Clive Mason

Figure skating returns to the Winter Games after a one-day hiatus with the ice dance short program beginning Sunday.

The event marks the return of medal favorites Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States. The Michigan-based pair will look to again capture the success they achieved during their first skate during the team figure skating competition. That performance helped net the U.S. a bronze medal.

Standing in the way of the reigning world champions and 2010 Vancouver silver medalists are a formidable group. The biggest rivals are the Canadian pairing of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, who are the defending Olympic champions from Vancouver. The duo helped pace our friends up north to silver in the team competition with a close second-place finish behind Davis and White.

The Russians, Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev, are viable podium threats as well, placing third in the team competition. It should make for the start of a hotly-contested competition -- but one in which the U.S. should be poised for another medal -- with France, Italy and Germany potentially chiming in as well.

Things get underway Sunday morning at 10 a.m. ET. Check local listings for the NBC primetime schedule in order to catch all of the pageantry.
