2014 Winter Olympics figure skating results: Meryl Davis, Charles White rule the short dance

America’s darlings turned in a performance for the ages, setting a short dance world record and topping the Canadian duo of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in the first of two dances.

SB Nation 2014 Winter Olympic Coverage

America’s heroes Meryl Davis and Charles White delivered another performance for the ages in the ice dancing short dance on Sunday, stirring the announcing team into silence and propelling the duo into first place with the ice dancing free dance slated for tomorrow.

In a performance we would love to show you or at the very least link for you but LOL NBC, White and Davis set a world record in short dance judging with a score of 78.89 -- 39.72 in elements and 39.17 in components.

Coming in a close second place were Canada’s Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the 2010 gold medalists who also took second in their event during team competition earlier in the Sochi Olympics. Virtue and Moir are still very much in contention for gold, and are near-locks for medaling with a lead of 3.55 points over the fourth-place French duo of Nathalie Pechalat (whose name is French for Natalie Peaches ‘n Cream, I’m pretty sure) and Fabian Bourzat.

But if we’re being honest, if White and Davis put together another dance that’s anywhere near as great as the short dance, the only thing that’s left is a competition for the silver medal. White and Davis were flawless.
