Olympics 2014 hockey schedule: United States to play Czech Republic in quarterfinals

Eight teams are left in the men’s Olympic hockey tournament. Here’s a look at the schedule for the quarterfinals.

SB Nation 2014 Winter Olympic Coverage

The field is set for the quarterfinals of the 2014 Winter Olympics men’s hockey tournament. Latvia pulled off the upset of Switzerland, the United States rolled through the preliminary round and Russia needed a play-in game just to get this far.

With the field narrowed down to eight, the quarterfinals are set to get underway on Wednesday. Sweden, the United States, Canada and Finland all got a bye. The tournament is now single elimination, and the winners of these four games on Wednesday will advance to the semifinals and will have a chance to play for a medal at some point over the weekend.

Finland vs. Russia is the most compelling matchup of the afternoon. While Russia needed a play-in game to make it into the round of eight, it is clearly one of the top teams in the tournament and could be a tough out for Finland, who is coming off a loss to Canada in the preliminary round. On the other hand, Canada lucked out with a matchup against Latvia in the second quarterfinals.

Here’s the full schedule for Wednesday (times listed in Eastern):

3 a.m. -- Sweden vs. Slovakia
7:30 a.m. -- Finland vs. Russia
Noon -- Canada vs. Latvia
Noon -- United States vs. Czech Republic
