2014 Olympics: Event schedule for Wednesday

It will be a busy day in Sochi on Wednesday with men’s hockey and women’s ice skating headlining the action.

SB Nation 2014 Winter Olympic Coverage

Although there will be eight Olympic gold medals up for grabs on Wednesday, it will be the non-medal events garnering most of the attention. Men’s hockey once again takes center stage with the quarterfinal round. Women’s figure skating will also be a big draw with the skaters scheduled to complete their short programs.

There will be four hockey games of note, beginning with Sweden facing off against Slovenia at 3 a.m. ET. That game will serve as an appetizer for the rest of the action which will continue with Russia facing Finland and Canada squaring off with Latvia. The men’s hockey concludes for the day with the United States back in action for a quarterfinal matchup with the Czech Republic. Team USA has been impressive thus far and would advance to a semifinal matchup against either Canada or Latvia with a win. The game against the Czechs is scheduled to begin at noon.

American figure skater Ashley Wagner will return to the ice when she skates in the women’s short program. Wagner earned a bronze medal in the team event earlier in the Olympics, drawing Internet fame for her reaction to judges’ scores.
