New Cure Bowl football game to ‘support breast cancer research’
The college football game will begin in 2015, joining a lineup already chock full of bowls.
“The Cure Bowl is the first of its kind to combine the passions of college football with the importance of supporting breast cancer research,” said Myra Biblowit, President & CEO of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation who took part in the announcement. “The funds raised through this exciting partnership will enable critical research investigations that are bringing us one step closer to finding the cure.”
Original, April 15: It’s the college football offseason, which means it’s the time to announce new bowl games!
According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, the American Athletic Conference and the Sun Belt will announce a new bowl game in Orlando that will be played at The Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, which is already home to the Capital One Bowl and the Russell Athletic Bowl.

The Orlando bowl game, to be played at the Citrus Bowl, applied to be certified by the NCAA to begin in 2014, but has not found a television network, sources said. This has caused the Orlando bowl to move its start date back to 2015, sources said.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the game will be announced on Wednesday, and it is the culmination of a Sun Belt effort to add another bowl game to the conference’s postseason partnerships.
Sun Belt commissioner Karl Benson confirmed that his league is looking into a possible game in Orlando.
“It hasn’t been a secret that the Sun Belt has indicated a desire to be involved with a fourth guaranteed game,” Benson told the Sentinel Monday. “I don’t think it’s been a secret that there’s been an organization in Orlando that has attempted to launch a game.”
American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco said during a teleconference the league would announce a new bowl partnership Wednesday.
Including the College Football Playoff, there will be 39 bowl games in 2014, up from 35 in 2013. With the addition of the new Orlando bowl, there are currently expected to be 40 bowl games in 2015, meaning 78 teams will be invited. In 2013, 81 teams finished the regular season .500 or above, so there’s a very real chance a sub-.500 team will make a bowl in the coming years.
