For the 118th time, runners from around the world will travel to Boston on Monday for the annual Boston Marathon. The city expects around 36,000 participants on Patriots’ Day with the race beginning in Hopkinton, Mass. and running 26.2 miles to Copley Square in Boston.

The world’s oldest annual marathon takes place on Monday with 36,000 runners ready to go for 26.2 miles.

Along the way, runners will pass through eight Massachusetts towns and battle the notorious Heartbreak Hill near Boston College. It all ends alongside the Boston Public Library at the famous finish line that has signaled the end of the marathon every year since 1986.
