Trail Blazers vs. Spurs final score, NBA playoffs 2014: San Antonio dominates Portland, 104-82, advance to Western Conference Finals
The San Antonio Spurs cruised to a Game 5 win and will be moving on to the Western Conference Finals.
The San Antonio Spurs put together another impressive performance as they routed the Portland Trail Blazers, 104-82, in Game 5. The win gives the Spurs a 4-1 series win and a berth in the Western Conference Finals.
It looked like the Spurs were going to put the Blazers away early on in this game. San Antonio opened up a 15-point lead and had its offense clicking on all cylinders in the second quarter. But just when it seemed like the Spurs would run away with it, Portland went on a run and stayed in the game. The Spurs led, 51-44, at halftime behind an all-around team effort and an efficient 32-point second quarter.
NBA Playoffs
The Spurs got some bad news when Tony Parker left the game with tightness in his left hamstring. Parker went back to the locker room and was eventually ruled out for the rest of the night. Despite Parker's injury, the Spurs opened the second half on an 8-0 run as they looked to finish off the series and move on to the next round of the playoffs.
Kawhi Leonard had a tremendous game for the Spurs, scoring 22 points and causing all sorts of havoc on defense, collecting five steals with his ridiculous wingspan. As usual, this victory was based upon the unstoppable ball movement of San Antonio. Portland played really hard and tried to extend the series, but just couldn't slow down the Spurs' offense.
In Parker's absence, Patty Mills stepped up off the bench and scored 18 points and hitting two three-pointers. As a team, San Antonio shot 9 of 21 from behind the arc.
Once the Spurs got it going in the second half, the Blazers never really had a chance. San Antonio is just too deep, too balanced and too effective in every phase of the game. Danny Green scored 22 points and was 4 of 6 from three-point land. Tim Duncan was steady as always, scoring 16 points and collecting 8 rebounds.
With their dominating win in Game 5, the Spurs advance to the Western Conference Finals for the third straight season. They will await the winner of the series between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers. No matter who wins that series, the Spurs will have home court advantage.
