NFL Draft 2014: Greg Robinson gives Rams huge power upgrade in the trenches

Rams rookie will play left guard his first season.

With the Texans' decision to select defensive end Jadeveon Clowney with the first pick in the Draft, they gave St. Louis the pick of the proverbial litter from the best of the rest. Their choice, Auburn tackle Greg Robinson, gives the Rams incredible muscle on the offensive line, exactly what they need in a tough NFC West that features three of the best defenses in the NFL in Seattle, Arizona, and San Francisco. As Smart Football's Chris Brown put it, the NFC West is a "big boy division," and Robinson adds a hard-nosed, bully mentality to the Rams' offense.

Robinson joins a Rams' offensive line that already features left tackle Jake Long and as Adam Schefter reports, the Rams plan to play their rookie at left guard, initially. This gives St. Louis the potential to have one of the best left sides in the NFC -- protecting the blind side for Sam Bradford (or whoever starts at quarterback) and leading the way for burgeoning 2nd year RB Zac Stacy.

Bottom line, the Rams just got the most physical offensive lineman in the draft to help them hang in the most physical division in the NFL.
