Belmont Stakes odds 2014: California Chrome the favorite across sports books

California Chrome is the overwhelming favorite to win a Triple Crown at Bovada and the Daily Racing Form, as well as on the morning line. It also helps that he just shared a piece of history with Secretariat.

California Chrome is easily the favorite to win the 2014 Belmont Stakes and claim horse racing’s first Triple Crown since 1978. Just how big a favorite is a matter of debate. Bovada (via OddsShark) and Daily Racing Form released their own odds after Wednesday’s morning line. Daily Racing Form was most bullish, giving California Chrome 2/5 odds to win, while Bovada was conservative, giving the horse near-even odds at 10/11.

While all three sources agree that California Chrome should win, there is some disagreement about who is his next closest competition. The morning line opened with Wicked Strong as the second favorite at 6/1, though Bovada and Daily Racing Form pegged Tonalist, running out of the No. 11 gate, as the best potential spoiler at 7/1 and 8/1, respectively. Potential upset bids could also come from Ride On Curlin (13/2 on Bovada, 12/1 on ML/DRF) and Commanding Curve (9/1 on Bovada, 15/1 on ML/DRF).

You can check out the full odds below.

9 Wicked Strong 6/1 8/1 10/1

California Chrome opened the week as a favorite at unofficial 10/13 odds. Those odds improved upon the announcement of a favorable post position. The No. 2 spot may be particularly lucky. As the Washington Post pointed out, California Chrome has drawn the same positions as Secretariat for the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont.
