Belmont Stakes 2014 undercard: Odgen Phipps headlines stakes-filled day at Belmont Park

There’s plenty to see before California Chrome’s run at a Triple Crown.

Belmont Park has breathed new life into the undercard at its track’s biggest day of the year -- Belmont Stakes day --and the day of races has five other Grade 1 stakes races before all eyes turn to California Chrome’s attempt to snag the first Triple Crown in 36 years.

Race 6 is the first Grade 1 race of the day, the TVG Acorn Stakes for three-year-old fillies. Kentucky Oaks winner Untapable won’t be there, but the 13-horse field is otherwise loaded. My Miss Sophia, the Kentucky Oaks runner-up, is the favorite at 6-5.

The Ogden Phipps, right after the Acorn Stakes, features four-year-old filly Beholder, which won three Grade 1 races as a three-year-old in 2013. Princess Of Sylmar surged to top Beholder in the 2013 Kentucky Oaks, and the two will face off again at the Ogden Phipps. Beholder is the favorite at 7-5, and Princess Of Sylmar is the second choice at 9-5.

Total purses for the day are totaled at $7.7 million, making it the most expensive day of racing outside of the Breeder’s Cup, according to Nicholas Godfrey of the Racing Post.

Below is a table of all 13 races at Belmont Park on Saturday.
