South Korea required final-inning heroics from Jae Yeong Hwang to squeak past Japan on Wednesday night. A final score of 4-2 concluded the evenly matched affair, as South Korea jumped out to an early lead on the back of a two-run homer by Hae Chan Choi, only to see Japan pull even on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning.

The win vaulted South Korea into the international championship game against Mexico, which will take place on Saturday, against the winner of Japan and Mexico.
Wednesday’s other contest saw the Taney Dragons of Philadelphia take on Las Vegas’ Mountain Ridge with the loser facing Illinois’ Jackie Robinson West at 7:30 PM on Thursday. Las Vegas got to Philadelphia star pitcher Mo’ne Davis early, putting up three runs within the first two innings, and knocking Davis from the game by the third. Philadelphia plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, but couldn’t overcome their early deficit, ceding five runs in the top of the sixth for a final score of 8-1.
