Teddy Bridgewater is in the game for the Minnesota Vikings after Matt Cassel suffered an injury Sunday early against the New Orleans Saints. Cassel has been ruled out with what is being reported as a toe injury.
Teddy Bridgewater takes over Vikings QB for injured Matt Cassel
Matt Cassel has been ruled out for the game, giving Teddy Bridgewater full control of the Vikings offense against the Saints.

Bridgewater was selected at the end in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, but the Vikings named the veteran Cassel as the team’s starter during the offseason. Bridgewater played well during his brief preseason appearances, however. Bridgewater was a standout at Louisville, and was touted as perhaps the best quarterback prospect in his class at the start of the NFL Draft evaluation period.
Cassel struggled to start Sunday’s game, going 5-for-10 passing for 53 yards. Bridgewater nearly matched Cassel’s output with his first two completions, picking up 51 yards after a 2-for-2 start.
Cassel has been mediocre to start the 2014 season. Through his first two games, he went 26-for-61 for 372 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. All four picks came in last week’s blowout loss to the New England Patriots.
Update: After the game, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told the media that Matt Cassel had broken several bones in his foot. He was seen walking on crutches and wearing a boot on his leg. Teddy Bridgewater takes over the starting job.
