Carmelo Anthony insists he’s ‘not shutting it down for the season yet’

The time to call it quits on the 2014-15 season hasn’t come quite yet for the Knicks’ star player.

New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony doesn't plan on sitting out the remainder of the 2014-15 season despite ongoing knee issues. In a video posted on Bleacher Report on Tuesday, Anthony said that he's "not shutting it down for the season yet -- just trying to take some time to get it right."

The statement from Anthony comes days after Knicks head coach Derek Fisher suggested his star player's season could end early due to significant knee problems. Anthony has already missed several games for New York this season, and has left others while battling pain.

With Melo struggling through the injury and the rest of the roster in shambles, the Knicks are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with a 5-32 record. The team has lost 12 consecutive games and finally shook things up this week by trading J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert to Cleveland in a cost-cutting move.

At a certain point, the Knicks and Anthony could decide that it’s not worth trying to salvage a lost season, and have the star player focus on rehab in order to compete next season. However, it appears the two sides aren’t quite there yet, although it’s always possible he changes his mind as fortunes sink further in New York.
