Rain delay interrupts ALCS Game 6, could disrupt Royals, Jays pitching staffs

A rain delay has interrupted Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, disrupting a 3-3 tie between the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals in the middle of the eighth inning at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.

The delay began at roughly 11 p.m. ET, and is expected to last at least a half-hour, which could disrupt both pitching staffs.

The Blue Jays tied the game 3-3 with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning, then closer Wade Davis was brought in to get the final two outs of the inning. Royals manager Ned Yost told Erin Andrews on the FOX television broadcast that the length of delay could affect whether Davis remains in the game.

“We’ll see how long it takes. He’s upstairs staying loose. This is kind of what I was hoping to stay away from, getting Wade into the ball game and then rain. But it was at a point where we had to do it,” Yost said. “Forty minutes is a little bit long, but this is a pretty big game and Wade’s our closer and we’ll see how he feels. If he feels good, like I’m sure he will, then he’ll go back out.”

The game is expected to resume at approximately 11:45 p.m.

For the Jays, they not only need to win Game 6 to stay alive, but then Game 7 on Saturday night, too. All hands are on deck should the game go into extra innings, including Saturday starter Marcus Stroman.

“If it’s still tied, we might turn it over to Stro,” Gibbons told Ken Rosenthal on the broadcast. “It’s not ideal, but we gotta win this game.”
