Fantasy football projections, Week 4: Cowboys-Saints featuring Joseph Randle, Jason Witten and Mark Ingram
We break down the Week 4 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints.
Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys looked to be on their way to a surprising and decisive victory over the Atlanta Falcons last week until the Falcons came storming back in the second half. It was a tale of two games for the team, and running back Joseph Randle can probably attest to that. He ran for three touchdowns and nearly had 100 yards by halftime. But in the second half, he was pretty much completely shut down by the Falcons. Still, fantasy owners had smiles on their faces knowing that Randle cashed in, and against New Orleans he should see a steady number of touches.
Maybe tight end Jason Witten can give owners a reason to smile this week. It’s clear that Cole Beasley and Devin Street aren’t exactly the answer when it comes to filling in for Dez Bryant. Witten on the other hand is one of the most reliable pass catchers in the game today. He has at least six catches and eight targets in every game this season. Witten is up against a Saints team that’s generous to fantasy tight ends so he could be in for an above-average week in New Orleans.
New Orleans Saints
The Saints aren’t exactly marching in on anyone these days. The team is winless through three weeks and on top of that quarterback Drew Brees is dealing with a shoulder injury. He sounded pretty confident throughout the week that he’d play against the Cowboys, though. Fantasy owners can only hope he does as Brees has historically been one of the top passers in the NFL, posting high volume and yardage totals. We won’t know if he’s playing until game day but right now it’s looking like a strong possibility that he will.
Brees’ return to the lineup could open up room on the ground for running back Mark Ingram. Ingram only rushed for 50 yards last week but also caught five passes out of the backfield, making him a solid performer in PPR leagues. Given that Atlanta’s Devonta Freeman picked up three scores against the Cowboys last week, Ingram might post even bigger numbers on Sunday.
