Pete Rose thinks Josh Donaldson is a baby for getting a concussion

Oh.

Inside Pete Rose’s skull is a clothes dryer. Inside that dryer is a large boot. The dryer is running, and it sounds like this: “CLORNK CLORNK CLORNK.” When Pete Rose opens his mouth, it sounds like this: “CLORNK CLORNK CLORNK.” These two things are related.

Pete Rose is now paid by Fox Sports to open his mouth and offer opinions. It’s literally his job. And he doesn’t have time for these frilly players coming out of baseball games because of swollen brains. Here’s what he had to say about Josh Donaldson, who left Game 1 of the ALDS with concussion-related symptoms:

Does everybody know what we’re playing for now? I mean, you get a tweak and you got to leave the game. You take a knee to the head, and you’ve got a helmet on, and you gotta leave the game to go take a test that you pass. I mean, because you’re a little light-headed?

I got light-headed how many times in my career? I still went out there and played. I guess it’s just different from when I played to when they’re playing today, Frank. I can’t see you sliding into second there and leaving the game, I really can’t.

The most important point that Rose makes, perhaps, is that he got light-headed several times in his career, presumably after taking blows to the head. The only way this could have been more perfect is if Rose added, “And look at me, I’m completely fine!” before staring vacantly into the camera for five silent seconds.

Presumably, someone at Fox Sports will gently say, “Hey, Pete, so concussions are kind of a hot-button issue these days, and ...” It’s just impressive that someone in 2015 would say that in the first place.
