Adding injury to insult, the Detroit Lions lost star wide receiver Calvin Johnson late in Sunday’s 45-10 blowout loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Johnson had five catches for 85 yards in the game before leaving the game with a hurt ankle.
Calvin Johnson tweaks ankle, but fantasy owners shouldn’t be too worried
The Detroit star left late in Sunday’s blowout. We break down the fantasy implications.

Reports out of the Lions’ clubhouse after the game were that Johnson’s injury wasn’t serious, that Johnson could have remained in the game had it not been an absolute blowout. Even despite missing the end of Sunday’s game, Johnson put up his third-straight game of 85-plus yards Sunday, though it was his first in that stretch without a touchdown as well.
Fantasy impact: Considering the Lions are already downplaying the injury, and that they have a Week 9 bye, it seems likely Johnson will be good to go for the team’s next game, at the Green Bay Packers in Week 10. Johnson’s production sputtered a bit early in the season, but appears to be mostly back on track, and he should solidly be a WR1 after the team’s bye.
If Johnson’s injury is worse than expected, Golden Tate and Lance Moore would both see their stocks rise; Tate would become an easy WR2, and Moore would be a low-end flex option.
