Michigan State is one of the four teams good enough to be in the College Football Playoff, whose bracket was released Sunday. Michigan State basketball is ranked No. 1 in the latest AP poll, which came out Monday. Michigan State is one of the best teams in the country in both of the two most popular college sports. That’s pretty amazing.
Michigan State has the best sports teams in the country, and their elite debate team will prove it
Michigan State has embraced debate.

But Michigan State would like to remind you that they are not just a school that’s really successful in sports, and that their students are also very good at other things, too:
On one side is Connor Cook, the star QB. On the other side is Lourawls Nairn, the star point guard. And in the middle are Tyler Thur and Margaret Strong, the star debaters. Perhaps MSU was actually ranked 5th in the final College Football Playoff ratings but the top-notch debate team showed up at the committee’s doorstep and just brutally debated them until they let the Spartans in?
In case you’re wondering, Michigan State’s claim checks out. An October coaches poll -- yes, debaters have a coaches poll -- ranked Thur and Strong fifth, and the last numbers at College Debate Ratings ranks them third. They’re ahead of Harvard in the rankings... but a spot behind Michigan. Payback for that football ending, I guess.
Anyway, good on Michigan State for celebrating all its athletes, including the less athletic ones.
