Aroldis Chapman allegedly choked his girlfriend, fired a gun in the garage in domestic incident

Police were called to the home of Reds closer Aroldis Chapman in October and Major League Baseball is investigating.

Monday began with reports that Reds closer Aroldis Chapman was going to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade. It's ending with a report from Yahoo! Sports that he was involved in a domestic incident at his Florida home on Oct. 30 in which he allegedly fired eight gunshots in his garage and choked his girlfriend.

According to the police report obtained by Yahoo! Sports, Chapman’s girlfriend alleged that after an argument over an item found on Chapman’s phone, he pushed her against a wall and put his hands around her neck. Chapman’s account differed as he described a scene in which he poked his girlfriend’s shoulder with his index and middle fingers and she fell to the ground. Chapman did confirm to police that he fired the gun in his garage.

No arrests were made because of “conflicting stories and a lack of cooperation from all parties involved,” according to the report. Chapman’s attorney released the following statement:

The full police report can be read here.

Even though no charges were filed, the incident will still be reviewed by Major League Baseball under its new domestic violence policy. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, the allegations are the main reason the rumored trade to the Dodgers has not been completed.
