Budweiser Duels 2015: Time, TV schedule and how to watch online

The 2015 Daytona 500 field will be settled on the track.

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

An all Hendrick Motorsports front row of Jeff Gordon on the pole and Jimmie Johnson next to him is set. Now it’s almost time to determine the rest of the 43-car lineup for the 2015 Daytona 500. Some of the spots in the field have already been clinched, but all of the competing cars will be driving for position on Thursday night in the Budweiser Duel races.

Gordon secured his place on the pole on Sunday when he posted a qualifying lap of 201.293 mph just as the clock ran out during the final round of knockout qualifying. While he earned the second Daytona 500 pole of his career, Gordon’s victory was overshadowed by the failed change to move to group qualifying. Qualifying was full of miscues and wrecks, leaving several dissatisfied drivers. The commotion continued after qualifying with Dale Earnhardt Jr and Denny Hamlin both having their qualifying times disallowed due to rule violations.

Group qualifying is a distant afterthought now with the attention instead turning to the Budweiser Duels. A total of 49 drivers -- including Gordon and Johnson -- will be split into two groups based on their qualifying speeds during group qualifying. Those who finished in an odd qualifying spot will race in one of the 60-lap Duels, while the even-number finishers will make up the second Duel field. There will be 15 starting spots up for grabs in each Duel race with the remaining spots in the Daytona 500 field settled by qualifying speeds, owner points and exceptions for former Sprint Cup champions.

Danica Patrick will be among the drivers trying race into the field. She has been forced into a backup car following her wreck on Wednesday. During practice runs, Patrick initiated contact with Hamlin, sending her vehicle spiraling towards a pack of others and causing significant damage. Hamlin has taken responsibility for the crash, which also included drivers Casey Mears, Greg Biffle and Jeb Burton. Regardless, Patrick has work to do to qualify and will have to do it with her backup car.

Aric Almirola, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jamie McMurray and Carl Edwards are locked into spots and are only competing for positioning. The rest of the field will be driving for a place in the race. The first Duel race is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. ET, while the second race should start sometime around 8:30 p.m. Both races will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1 with online streaming available from Fox Sports Go.
