Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is technically also a minor league prospect of the Texas Rangers. And for the second straight season, he’s hanging out with the team for a day at their spring training facility, doing drills, taking BP, and helping motivate the squad:

Today is Russell Wilson’s annual day with the Texas Rangers, and he’s still got some pop in his bat!

— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) March 28, 2015 Wilson will be suited up for the team's game today against the Padres, but is not expected to play -- that would be taking away valuable at-bats from actual prospects, and he'd run the risk of getting injured, which wouldn't sit well with the Seahawks.
Wilson was a fourth-round pick of the Rockies in 2010, and spent two years in their minor league system, hitting .229 with five home runs, before going to Wisconsin to finish his college football career. The Rangers took Wilson in the Rule 5 draft in 2013, with hopes he’d serve as a motivational speaker for the team. He did, visiting the team in last year’s spring training. The Rangers were actually so worried that another team would try this gambit that they added Wilson to their Triple-A roster -- meaning another team would have to keep Wilson on their major league roster for the whole season if they wanted to acquire Wilson’s rights. It seems unlikely that Wilson will ever consider becoming a two-sport athlete, but it looks like this day with the Rangers will be an annual thing.
