The Atlanta Braves on Thursday acquired right-handed pitcher Trevor Cahill from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league outfielder Josh Elander, according to team announcement. The Braves will also receive cash considerations in the deal.
Braves acquire RHP Trevor Cahill from Diamondbacks
The D-backs might have opened the door for top prospect Archie Bradley.

Cahill was recently named the Diamondbacks' No. 5 starter ahead of Daniel Hudson, who is returning from Tommy John surgery. Cahill, 27, posted a 5.61 ERA in 110 2/3 innings as a starter and reliever last season, but entered the year with a career 3.89 ERA in more than 900 big league frames. He's owed $12 million this season.
Though Hudson could join Arizona's rotation, the club's trade of Cahill might have opened the door for the promotion of top pitching prospect Archie Bradley.
Bradley, the No. 16 overall prospect in baseball per MLB.com, has allowed just four runs in 22 1/3 innings this spring. He owns a 3.14 ERA with 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings in his minor league career.
The Braves will use Cahill to shore up the back of their rotation, which is short-handed because of a shoulder injury to Mike Minor that will prevent him from pitching in the big leagues until May at the earliest.
They’ll do that at the expense of Elander, a 24-year-old Texas native who hit .275/.356/.435 line during three minor league seasons. Elander likely begin the 2015 season with the Double-A BayBears.
