Is the decade’s most highly anticipated boxing match on thin ice? It depends who you ask. Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is finally scheduled to happen on May 2, but reportedly, some details have yet to be ironed out.

Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, said no contract exists between MGM Resorts and the promoters, according to Yahoo! Sports. What exactly does this mean? The split for tickets and rooms between MGM and the promoters remains unsettled. A deal terms memo was signed between each side in February but it was apparently never put into a contract.
Arum had a dramatic response to the news:
“Fight?” he said in a thunderous tone. “We’ve got nothing. They’re [the MGM] going around saying, ‘The fight, the fight, blah, blah, blah,’ but they got nothing. They have no contract. Nothing. We haven’t even seen a draft. ... What is happening now is absolutely intolerable. For the MGM to think that everything is resolved and so forth, when nobody has even discussed terms, is the most insane thing ever.”
Meanwhile, Mayweather’s representatives called the idea that the fight might be in jeopardy “ridiculous.” There’s a ton of money on the table for this fight, and it seems impossible either side would walk away from it.
This is not the first blow up between Arum and Leonard Ellerbe, Pacquiao’s representation. Last year, the pair fought over signs for an upcoming Mayweather fight appearing at the MGM during a Pacquiao fight. Ellerbe insisted this is only a controversy because Arum is making it one.
Can the promoters get in the ring after the boxers? It’s starting to feel like it might be necessary.
